Ignition "pulse-purr" noise heard through the radio speakers is most audible with the volume control set at minimum sound and is RPM related. The condition may be resolved by rerouting the #37 feed circuit (part of the 14401 wiring assembly) from inside the vehicle to across the engine side of the dash panel (Figures 10 and 11 (pictorial) for details).
WIRING PROCEDURE FOR RE-ROUTING #37 FEED CIRCUIT
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
Figure 10:
2. Locate the 14401 wiring assembly, which runs from the starter motor relay along the right hand fender apron and through the right hand side of the dash panel into the passenger compartment.
NOTE: Refer to attached Figure 10 for the 14401 harness location.
3. Approximately 17 inches from the dash panel grommet going toward the front of the vehicle, carefully cut away 3 inches of the harness wrap in order to expose the (#37 circuit) yellow 10 gauge wire (WS-510-B).
4. Cut the yellow wire to terminate the feed circuit at this point. Fold the end of the wire back which goes into the vehicle and tape with ESB-M3G5-A tape, as shown in Figure 10, View A.
5. Tape this entire area with C8AZ-19628-G electrical tape to prevent the existing harness wrap from unraveling.
6. Obtain a roll of 10 gauge wire and one C9AZ- 14487-D, 10 gauge wire butt connector.
7. At the remaining cut end of the yellow wire, (which connects to the starter relay), strip 3/8" of insulation from the yellow wire (#37 feed circuit) and install the C9AZ-14487-D butt connector. Crimp in place using tool #D81L-17018-A.
8. Strip 3/8" of insulation from one end of the roll of 10 gauge wire (procured in Step #6) and install into the other end of the butt connector. Crimp in place using tool #D81L-17018-A. Solder the butt connection and tape.
9. Route the 10 gauge wire along the dash panel over to the harness coming through the dash panel on the left hand side of the vehicle. Secure the 10 gauge wire (re-routed #37 circuit) to the dash panel and surrounding hardware/wiring/vacuum hose with adjustable bundling straps, Part No. 95874-S.
10. At the left hand side of the vehicle, locate either the blue colored one-way connector (#37B yellow wire) or a junction block on the dash panel. At this point, install the re-routed #37 feed circuit to either the connector of the junction block.
NOTE: Use a B9A-14294-H, (yellow) eyelet for a 10 gauge wire to complete the connection at the junction block. Use a hardshell connector, D6TZ-14489-A (use only if junction block not used) and a D20Z-14474-B terminal to complete the circuit hook-up at the one-way hardshell (circuit #37B, yellow wire).
11. Connect the negative battery cable. Check circuit operation. Release the vehicle.
