Brakes and Traction Control: Description and Operation

The caliper assembly consists of a pin slider caliper housing, inner and outer shoe and lining assemblies and a single piston. The assembly slides on two pins which also secure the caliper to the spindle.
The caliper housing contains a piston which has a molded rubber boot on its outer end which is pressed into a cylinder bore groove to prevent cylinder contamination. Also installed in the housing is a rubber piston seal located in the cylinder bore to provide sealing between cylinder and piston.
The outer shoe and lining assemblies are secured to the caliper by spring clips riveted to the shoe surfaces and two rectangular torque buttons on each shoe. The inner shoe and lining assemblies use a replaceable finger anti-rattle clip.
