Tilt Column Upper Shaft Bearing

Removal
1. Remove steering column assembly from vehicle.
2. Remove conical coil spring and upper bearing plate, Fig. 12.
3. Remove upper bearing C-clip from shaft.
4. Place tilt casting to the upper position to unload tilt spring.
5. Using tool Nos. T67P-3D739-C or T70P-3D739-A or equivalents, remove pivot pins. The tilt spring will still exert an upward force. Carefully remove the pivot pins.
6. Remove tilt casting, the 2 bearings, tilt release lever and lock lever.
7. Using a suitable drift and hammer, tap bearings from tilt casting.



Installation
1. Install bearings into tilt casting.
2. Install tilt spring between upper and lower tilt casting and tilt latch release lever into upper position.
3. Align castings and insert the 2 pivot pins.
4. Install upper bearing snap ring, upper bearing retainer plate and conical spring.
5. Install steering column into vehicle.
