A/T - A4LD Delay In Reverse/Occasional No-Reverse
TSB 89-14 (May)SUBJECT: FORD A4LD
PROBLEM:
DELAY IN REVERSE (Garage Shift) OCCASIONAL NO-REVERSE
CORRECTION:
To correct a "delay in reverse", or an occasional "no reverse":
Increase the oil flow for reverse. Do this by enlarging the orifice hole in the separator plate, next to the checkball hole closest to the manual valve. (See figure)
Routinely, during overhaul, we recommend drilling the hole to .062" or 1/16".
Units known to have a reverse engagement problem might be drilled to .078" or 5/64".
BE AWARE THAT OVERDRILLING THIS HOLE WILL RESULT IN HARSH REVERSE ENGAGEMENTS.
