ISSUE: The cooling system test and coolant refill procedures as published in the 1983-88 Car Shop Manual, Volume D, Section 27-01 and the Aerostar Shop Manual Section 8-01 are incorrect. Following the procedures as currently published could cause air pockets in the cylinder head when both the radiator and cylinder block have been drained. The air pockets could cause the engine to overheat.

ACTION: If service is required, use the "COOLING TEST" and "COOLANT REFILL" procedures on pages 14 through 40 of this TSB. This service information should be inserted in your shop manuals for future reference.
