IN-LINE FUSE INSTALLATION ON 13B401 RELAY AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY FOR AEROSTAR VEHICLES WITH TRAILER TOW OPTION
The following lists the procedure for installing the E89Z-19137-A In-Line Fuse Kit in the trailer tow Relay and Bracket Assembly.
Step 1
Remove Jack Assembly cover located in the left rear quarter panel of the vehicle. Remove Jack Assembly and locate trailer tow Relay and Bracket Assembly (See Diagram 1A).
Step 2
Remove Bracket Assembly attaching screw (See Diagram 1A). Locate and disconnect the 12-way Bracket Assembly connector from the vehicle's 12-way mating wiring connector (Diagram 1B). This is done by firmly pressing downward on the retainer tab and pulling the connectors apart.
Step 3
Locate locking wedge removal slots (Diagram 2A), found on both sides of the 12-way connector. To remove locking wedge, insert a pin into one of the slots and push the locking wedge tab (Diagram 2A) inward then forward. Repeat for other side. Use "needle nose" pliers to remove wedge from 12-way connector.
Step 4
To remove the #37 circuit terminal (Diagram 2A) from the 12-way connnector, move the inner terminal retaining arm (Diagram 2B) away from the #37 terminal and pull the terminal and wire assembly from the 12-way connector.
Step 5
Insert the #37 circuit terminal, removed in Step 4, into the rear of the two-way connector found in the in-line fuse kit. Note: insert the #37 circuit terminal into the right side of the two-way connector (as viewed in Diagram 3). Push the #37 circuit terminal firmly until terminal snaps into place.
Step 6
Install the locking wedge between the two inside retainer arms of the two-way connector as shown in diagram 3. Push firmly until wedge locks into place.
Step 7
Connect the In-Line Fuse and Wire Assembly (Diagram 4) by joining its two-way connector to the two-way connector in steps 5 & 6. Insure that both terminals align with each other. Push connectors together until they are snapped into place.
Step 8
Insert the bare male terminal end of the Fuse and Wire Assembly into the rear of the 12-way connector cavity in which the #37 terminal was removed (see Step 4). Push terminal until it snap-locks into place.
Step 9
Using "needle nose" pliers install 12-way connector locking wedge (Diagram 2A). Push until it locks into place.
Step 10
Bundle excess wire (see Diagram 5) and retain with Tie Down located in fuse package.
Step 11
Connect 12-way connector to mating vehicle 12-way connector removed in step 2. Inspect and insure that all corresponding terminals align properly. Push until retainer locks-into place.
Step 12
Using a voltmeter and probe, test the terminal for voltage at point "X" (Diagram 5). If voltage is present go to step 13. If no voltage is present check previous connections for proper location (refer to steps 5, 7, 8 and 11), and or fuse for possible open circuit.
Step 13
Reinstall the Trailer Tow Relay and Bracket Assembly using the single attaching screw.
Step 14
Reinstall Jack Assembly and trim cover.
Step 15
Dealers should either give the label page number and the label, found in the fuse repair kit, to the owner or wet the glue backing and attach the label to the Aerostar Owners Guide on the following page:

NOTE: In those cases where the page number changed with the second or third printing of the Owner Guide, attach the label at the bottom of the last fuse chart in the Specifications and Capacities Section of the guide.
If the Owner Guide is missing, give the label to the owner.
