A/C System - Not Cooling Satisfactorily

AND A/C SYSTEM
LIGHT TRUCK: 1986-90 AEROSTAR
ISSUE: The air conditioning system may not cool satisfactorily during high ambient temperature and humidity conditions. This happens because the refrigerant flow to the main A/C and auxiliary A/C system may not be balanced. Lack of a water valve to meter the coolant flow into the front heater core could also contribute to this concern.
ACTION: Install a new orifice tube in the main A/C and auxiliary Heater-A/C system to balance the refrigerant flow. The new main A/C orifice tube is color coded ORANGE/WHITE. The color code for the auxiliary A/C orifice tube is BROWN/WHITE. Install a water valve on the unit if it is not already equipped with one. Refer to the appropriate model year Aerostar Shop Manual for orifice tube installation. See the following procedure for water valve installation details.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE FIXED ORIFICE TUBE WITH PLIERS. DO NOT TWIST OR ROTATE THE ORIFICE TUBE IN THE EVAPORATOR CORE TUBE. THIS WILL BREAK THE FIXED ORIFICE TUBE BODY IN THE EVAPORATOR CORE TUBE. FOLLOW THE SHOP MANUAL SERVICE PROCEDURE.
1. Install a water valve, (D7DZ-18495-B) onto the water inlet heater hose for the front heater core.
2. Secure the water valve with two (2) worm-drive type hose clamps.
3. Connect a vacuum "T", (373846-S), into the vacuum source for the recirculating air door.
4. Connect one end of a twenty-five inch (25") piece of 1/8" I.D. vacumm hose to the "T".
5. Connect the other end of the vacuum hose to the water valve vacuum port.
NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THE TEMPERATURE LEVER WILL NO LONGER REGULATE THE DISCHARGED AIR TEMPERATURE WHEN THE CONTROL IS PLACED IN THE "MAX A/C" MODE.
