ISSUE: No start, hard start, stalling, or intermittent driveability conditions may be caused by the engine control wire harness (12A581) being trapped and chafing between the engine and the engine cover insulator retainer.
Figure 30:
ACTION: To correct this, inspect the position of the 12A581 wire harness. If the retainer is contacting the 12A581 wire harness, use the following service/repair procedure, Figure 30.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
Figure 31:
2. Cut off approximately 1.5 inches from insulator retainer end and discard. Bend "new" end of retainer flush to insulator (Figure 31).
3. Open convolute to expose wires where insulator retainer contacted 12A581 wire harness.
4. Inspect for damaged wires and repair as required.
5. Tuck wires back into convolute, tape convolute closed with heat resistant tape (E0AZ- 19628-A).
6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Check to make sure the vehicle starts.
