FORD - LIGHT TRUCK: 1987 AEROSTAR

ISSUE: Stalling, surging, hesitating and/or a no start condition may be caused by the EGO sensor wires of the 12A581 wire harness rubbing against the exhaust manifold and/or edge of the wire connector mounting bracket.

ACTION: To correct this, install a piece of protective convolute tubing (D4SZ- 14A099-F) using the following diagnostic service procedure.

Figure 13:

1. Locate the wire for the EGO sensor (near the back of the engine on the right side), Figure 13.

NOTE: If wires have convolute tubing installed near the connector and the wires are secured to the engine lifting eye with the tie strap, further inspection is not required. Perform normal diagnostic procedures. If wires do not have the convolute tubing and are not secured to engine lifting eye, proceed to Step 2.

2. If damaged wires are found, repair as required.

NOTE: If wires are not damaged and convolute tubing and tie strap have not been installed, Step 3 should be performed to prevent future rubbing of the wires.

3. Obtain tie strap (95874-S) and a four inch piece of convolute tubing (D4SZ-14A099-F). Install convolute tubing on wiring, butting one end against EGO connector and wrap both ends with electrical tape. Secure wiring to engine lifting eye with tie strap, Figure 13.

4. Check vehicle for proper operation.
