DOOR - SLIDING - RATTLES ON ROUGH ROADS

LIGHT TRUCK 1986-87 AEROSTAR

A rattling noise coming from the sliding door while traveling on rough roads may be caused by the door upper guide roller being out of adjustment. To correct this, adjust the body side upper guide bracket and body side door upper guide roller using the following service procedure:

Figure 14:

1. Slide the sliding door half way open and loosen two nuts which attach the body side door upper guide bracket assembly to body side door upper guide roller assembly. Do not remove nuts, see Figure 14.

Figure 15:

2. Push sliding door from outside upper right hand corner where two assemblies are located against the vehicle until free play is eliminated, see Figure 15.
3. Immediately after free play is eliminated, tighten two nuts 6-10 ft.lbs. (9-14 N-m). This will cause sliding door to have a tighter fit along the weatherstrip.

4. Road test vehicle on a rough road to make sure the rattling has been corrected.
