WEATHERSTRIP - SLIDING DOOR - WORN OR DAMAGED UPPER FORWARD AREA OF WEATHERSTRIP - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 1/1/94
LIGHT TRUCK:
1986-94 AEROSTAR
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit the sliding door weatherstrip becoming worn and/or damaged at the upper forward portion of the weatherstrip. This may be caused by the upper roller studs coming in contact with the weatherstrip.
ACTION:
Replace the sliding door weatherstrip if it is damaged and shorten the upper roller studs. Refer to the following for service details.
Do not replace the weatherstrip unless it is damaged.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. If the weatherstrip requires replacement, refer to the appropriate Service Manual for service procedures. Proceed to Step 3.
2. If the weatherstrip does not require replacement, proceed to Step 3.
3. Check for interference between the front upper roller studs and the weatherstrip by slowly moving the door back and forth near the closed position.
4. If interference is present, proceed to Step 5.
5. Remove the roller assembly. Refer to the 1986-88 Service Manual, Section 72-22, or the 1989-94 Service Manual, Section 01-03, for removal procedures.
6. Cut or grind studs as necessary to obtain proper clearance, leaving at least 1 mm of stud above the nut. Refer to Figure 1.
7. Reinstall the roller assembly.
