This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1987 and 1988 Aerostars.

Safety Defect The rear liftgate may not remain in the open position. One or both of the two
lift strut body attachments may unexpectedly fracture. If this should occur when
the liftgate is in the open position, the liftgate will drop downward.

Problems An unexpected downward movement of the liftgate may result in physical
injury to a person under the liftgate.

If you notice that the liftgate feels "heavy" when opening or if the liftgate will
not remain in the open position, do not use the liftgate until the recall service is
performed. Do not attempt to support an open liftgate with a broom handle
or any other similar device.

Repairs At no cost to you, your dealer will install
two new liftgate ball stud attachments on your Aerostar.

Refunds If you paid to have the service done before the date of this letter,
Ford is offering a full refund. For the refund, please show your paid
work-order to your Ford Dealer.


How long will The time needed to repair the liftgate is less than one hour. However,
it take? due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle
for one full working day.


Call your dealer Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and
if parts are in stock.

If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before
scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.

When you bring your Aerostar in, give the dealer this letter.

If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.

Changed address If you have, please fill out enclosed prepaid postcard and mail
or sold the it to us.
