Safety Recall 89S78
Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1986 and 1987 Aerostars with factory installed Captain's Chair Front Seats.
Safety Defect The right front passenger seat belt webbing may be abraded
or cut from contact with the seat back pivot hinge.
The strength of a seat belt may be reduced by abraded or cut webbing and the risk of injury to the front seat passenger may be increased.
Repairs Enclosed is a passenger side seat back pivot hinge cover
(black in color) which will help protect the seat belt webbing. You may wish to install this cover yourself (follow the instructions, attachment A) or your dealer will install it for you at no charge.
If you choose to install the cover yourself, be sure to check the front passenger side seat belt on the right of the seat, 6 inches up from the floor. Inspect the belt where it passes over the seat back pivot hinge. If it has any nicks or cuts, return your Aerostar to your dealer. Your dealer will determine if the belt needs replacement. If the belt needs to be replaced the dealer will install a new one at no charge.
Call your Call your dealer without delay and ask for a service
dealer date.
Your dealer has the service information needed to check the seat belt and install the pivot cover on your Aerostar. If
your Aerostar needs to have a new seat belt installed and your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered and shipment would be expedited. Occupants should continue to wear their seat belts even if they show signs of wear or damage.
