RECALL NUMBER 88S49

Date July, 1988

TO: All Ford Dealers

SUBJECT: Safety Recall 88S49 - Recall of 1986 Through 1988 Aerostar Vehicles Equipped with the Optional Trailer Tow Package (F7B) for Installation of Fuse Repair Kit

AFFECTED VEHICLES:

1986 through 1988 Aerostar vehicles with the trailer tow option (option code F7B) built from (Job #1) 1986 through March 7, 1988.

REASONS FOR RECALL:

The subject vehicles were built with trailer tow relays having electrical wiring of a smaller gage than the fuse link located at the battery. This smaller gage wire in the relay assembly could overheat if a short circuit were to develop in the trailer being towed. In such a case, the potential exists for a fire in the left rear quarter panel. To prevent this condition, a fuse repair kit will be installed in the #37 power feed circuit to the trailer tow relay.

PURGE OF DEALER STOCK:

Dealers are to remove, from parts stock, all Aerostar trailer tow relay and bracket assemblies and return them to the National Parts Distribution Center.

REVISION OF OWNERS GUIDE:

Dealers should either give the label page number and the label, found in the fuse repair kit, to the owner or attach the label to the Aerostar Owners Guide.

NOTE: If the owner guide is missing, give the label to the owner.
