ISSUE: Rear brake squeal and/or sticking during the first few brake applications when the brakes are cold or in the morning after an overnight rain may be caused by the rear brake shoes not being chamfered on the leading and trailing edges.

ACTION: To correct this, rework the brake shoes using the following service procedure.

1. Remove rear brake shoes.

Figure 40:

2. Grind a chamfer to the leading and trailing ends of the primary and secondary shoes. Chamfer to extend from the end of the lining to the edge of the first rivet hole. Lining thickness at the end of the linings should be between .060" to .120", Figure 40.

3. Grease backing plate ledges with disc brake caliper slide grease.

4. Reassemble the brakes.
