Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Service and Repair
All components are serviced as assemblies and should not be disassembled
COMPUTER MODULE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On Bronco II and Ranger models, remove module access cover from pillar behind driver's seat.
3. On all models, disconnect wiring harness connector from module, then remove module retaining screws and module.
4. Reverse procedure to install, then check system for proper operation.
REAR ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (RABS) VALVE
1. Disconnect and plug brake lines from valve.
2. Disconnect wiring harness, then remove valve attaching nuts and valve from frame rail.
3. Position new valve onto frame rail, then install and torque attaching nuts to 15 ft. lbs.
4. Reconnect wiring harness and brake lines, then perform system brake bleeding procedures as required.
REAR ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM SENSOR
1. Disconnect speed sensor harness connector.
2. Remove retaining bolt, then pull sensor from axle housing.
3. Clean axle mounting surface, then install sensor as follows:
a. Lubricate sensor O-ring with engine oil. If old sensor is to be reused, replace O-ring.
b. Grasp sensor at sides, then push fully into axle housing, ensuring that mounting flange hole aligns with threaded hole in axle housing.
c. Install retaining bolt and torque to 27 ft. lbs.
EXCITER RING
The exciter ring is pressed onto the differential case. Replacement requires removal of the case from the axle housing. Upon removal, the ring should be discarded and replaced with a new unit. Refer to the ``Drive Axle Service'' section for differential case removal.
