Electric Fuel Pump Replace

1987 - 88 V8-460

Whenever the electric fuel pump is removed from the fuel tank, the rubber hoses, clamps and gaskets must be replaced. When the rubber hoses become exposed to outside air, the air reacts with the fuel soaked rubber causing hoses to become brittle. This deterioration seriously weakens the hoses and will lead to premature wear.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Attach tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent to the fuel diagnostic valve on the fuel charging assembly. Depressurize fuel system.
3. Remove fuel from fuel tank by pumping fuel out through filter. Use care to prevent combustion from fuel spillage.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Disconnect supply and return line fittings, then vent line at the right and left hand side of the rear axle frame kick-ups.
6. Disconnect electrical connector forward of tank.
7. Disconnect and remove fuel filter tube.
8. Remove fuel tank support straps, then fuel tank from bench.
9. Remove any dirt from around the pump, then disconnect the supply line and return line fittings and the electrical connector.
