ISSUE: The hydraulic clutch system for 1983-88 F250-350 Trucks is similar in operation to the mechanical system used on earlier model year vehicles. The hydraulic system eliminates several of the mechanical pivot points by using a clutch master cylinder and a clutch slave cylinder that are connected by a flexible hydraulic line that transfers the hydraulic fluid from one component to the other. Clutch system diagnosis is the same as earlier model year vehicles, except for the hydraulic portion. Underdash mechanisms such as the clutch pedal and linkage pivot points remain virtually unchanged. The clutch

pressure plate, clutch disc and clutch release bearing also function the same as in previous model years. This TSB article will provide the technician with a complete overview of the hydraulic portion of the clutch system and past TSB articles published that pertain to clutch system diagnosis and service, Figure 5.

ACTION: To correctly diagnose and service hydraulic clutch system concerns refer to the service information contained on pages 42 through 51 of this TSB.
