ISSUE: A new dual mass flywheel and clutch system is used on 1987-88 F-250 and F- 350 vehicles equipped with 6.9L diesel or 7.5L EFI engines and Z-F heavy duty M50D transmission. This new design flywheel provides a smoother, quieter power flow through the drivetrain.
ACTION: If service is required on the new dual mass flywheel and clutch system, use the following service procedure.
CAUTION: The new cover assembly bolt is 5/16" x 18 x .75" while the current 6.9L diesel or 7.5L EFI cover bolt is 5/16" x 18 x .92". The .92 inch-long bolt CANNOT be used with the dual mass flywheel because it will extend beyond the inner surface of the secondary flywheel and interfere with the primary flywheel. Only the new .75" cover bolt can be used with the dual mass flywheel.
