CLUTCH - EXCESSIVE PEDAL EFFORT - TRUCKS WITH 6.9L DIESEL OR 7.5L AND T-19 MANUAL TRANSMISSION
LIGHT TRUCK: 1984-87 F-250, F-350
ISSUE: Excessive clutch pedal effort may be experienced when depressing the clutch pedal during shifting. Clutch pedal efforts greater than 70 pounds may be caused by binding of the release bearing due to contamination or lack of lubrication at the quill and bearing surfaces.
ACTION: Check the clutch pedal effort and, if necessary, install a new bearing assembly which allows remote lubrication.
NOTE: EXCESSIVE PEDAL EFFORTS MAY ALSO BE CAUSED BY A WORN OUT CLUTCH DISC. THEREFORE, WHEN INSPECTING FOR HIGH PEDAL EFFORTS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO DIAGNOSE AND CONFIRM THAT THE CONDITION IS CAUSED BY BINDING UP OF THE RELEASE BEARING BEFORE TAKING CORRECTIVE ACTION.
The new bearing assembly will allow lubrication of the release bearing without removing the transmission and clutch housing. The bearing/tube assembly is connected to a zerk type grease fitting with attaching hardware to allow remote lubrication.
