Front Door Glass - Squeaking/Creaking When Cycled

^ NOISE - "SQUEAK" AND "CREAK" FROM FRONT DOOR GLASS DURING OPERATION

LIGHT TRUCK: 1988-89 BRONCO II, RANGER


ISSUE: A "squeaking" and "creaking" noise from the front door when the door glass window is cycled may be caused by one or more of the following conditions:

^ Slide assembly on the glass bracket will not pivot freely.

^ Lack of grease in the glass channel.

^ Binding glass bracket and glass channel.

ACTION: Install new slide assemblies that are made from improved materials and new zinc plated guide assemblies. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Remove the door trim panel and watershield.

2. Remove the front door glass regulator.

3. Hold the door glass in the full up position. Use of a clamp may be helpful.

4. Drill out the two (2) blind rivets that hold the door glass bracket to the door glass.

5. Slide the door glass bracket out from the door glass guide. Refer to the 1988 Ranger/Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 42-04 or the 1989 Ranger/Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 01-11-14 for service details.

6. Grind out and throw away the existing door glass slide from the regulator drive arm, Figure 1.

7. Grind out and throw away the two (2) existing door glass bracket slides, Figure 2.

8. Install a new door glass slide, (E9TZ-1023240-A) in the regulator drive arm. Stake the slide with a hammer, Figure 1.

9. Install two (2) new door glass bracket slides, (E9TZ-10234B36-A) in the glass bracket. Tighten the retaining nuts to a torque of 5-8 ft.lbs. (7-11 N-m), Figure 2.

10. Apply a liberal amount of Ford Multi-Purpose Grease, (DOAZ-19584-AA) along the channel of the existing door glass guide and door glass bracket.

11. Position the door glass bracket to the glass and install two (2) blind rivets, (385323-S100).

12. Reinstall the door glass regulator. Use three(3)rivets, (385189-S100) to secure manual door glass regulators. Use four (4) rivets, (385189-S100) to secure power door glass regulators.

13. Remove the clamp from the window if used.

14. Cycle the window up and down. If the noise is gone, proceed to Step 22. If the noise is still present, proceed to Step 15.

15. Clamp the door glass in the full up position.

16. Remove the three (3) nut and washer assemblies that hold the door glass guide to the door inner panel.

17. Slide the guide out from the door glass bracket and throw it away.

18. Position the new guide, (E9TZ-1021546-A) to the door glass bracket.

19. Reinstall the three (3) nut and washer assemblies that hold the door glass guide to the door inner panel.

20. Apply a liberal amount of Ford Multi-Purpose Grease, (DOAZ-19584-AA) to the channel.

21. Remove the clamp from the door glass.

22. Install the watershield and trim panel.

23. Repeat Steps 1 through 22 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
