Rear Suspension - Low Ride Height When Loaded

SUSPENSION - REAR - LOW ATTITUDE WHEN LOADED AT OR NEAR GVWR - 4X2 REGULAR CAB, SUPER CAB AND 4X4 REGULAR CAB MODELS


LIGHT TRUCK: 1989-91 RANGER


ISSUE: The vehicle may ride low in the rear when loaded at or near GVWR. This condition is caused by poorly computed camber dimensions for the springs.

ACTION: Install a rear spring shim (F1TZ-5W536-A) to each rear spring. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


On 1991 vehicles only, check the part number prefix located on either the bottom side of the last spring leaf near the center bolt or on the bottom side of the spring clip.

^ If the part number prefix is F17A, do NOT add a rear spring shim.

^ Confirm that the height and weight is as specified in the Body Builder's Specification Book and the vehicle is not overloaded.


4X2 MODELS

1. Remove the U-bolts attaching the springs to the axle.

2. Install the rear spring shim (F1TZ-5W536-A) between each spring and the axle.

3. Make sure the tab on the rear spring shim fits into the hole on the axle.

4. Install new longer U-bolts (N807321-S56) and nuts (N620483-S150) to secure the springs to the axle.

5. Tighten the U-bolts to 65-80 lb.ft. (88-108 N-m)

6. Readjust headlights on the vehicle.

4X4 MODELS

1. Remove the U-bolts attaching the springs to the axle.

2. Install the rear spring shims (F1TZ-5W536-A) between each spring and the spacer.

3. Make sure the tab on the rear spring shim fits into the hole on the spacer.


4. Install new longer U-bolts (E9TZ-5705-C) and nuts (N620483-S150) to secure the springs to the axle.

5. Tighten the U-bolts to 65-80 lb.ft. (88-108 N-m).

6. Readjust headlights on the vehicle.
