Wiper and Washer Systems: Description and Operation

These windshield wipers are actuated by a permanent magnet, rotary type electric motor. The two wiper arms and blades are mounted on a pivot shaft, one at each side of windshield. The pivot shafts are connected to the motor by linkage arms and attaching clip.
Both the standard and interval wiper and washer systems on Bronco II, Explorer and Ranger feature a steering column mounted lever-type switch. On 1988-91 Aerostar models, the standard and interval wiper/washer system feature an instrument panel mounted slide-type wiper/washer control switch. On 1992 Aerostar models, the wiper system features a rotary actuated switch and a push type washer switch. Both switches are part of the turn signal lever of the multi-function switch.
