THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
The engine may stall during the initial "Drive" or "Reverse" engagement and a random engine miss may occur. A "backout bump"/Miss may be felt on tip out. The delayed gear engagement may be due to the integration between the engine calibration and the delayed transmission engagement. The engine stall, miss and/or the miss on "tip out" may be characteristic of the EEC IV Processor strategy.

ACTION:
Perform the EEC IV Self Test and, if necessary, install a new EEC IV Processor with improved strategy. Refer to the following procedure for service details.


1. Confirm the customer's concern.

2. Perform the EEC IV Self Test. Correct service codes(s) as necessary. Refer to the 1990 Engine/Emissions Diagnostic Service Manual for diagnostic procedures associated with the service codes.

3. If after correcting the service code(s) the condition still exists, replace the EEC IV Processor. Refer to Parts Block for correct parts usage.





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
