TRANSMISSION - E40D - POSITIONING OF FORWARD CLUTCH PISTON SPRING TO PREVENT FATIGUE - SERVICE TIP


LIGHT TRUCK: 1989-91 BRONCO, ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES


ISSUE: The forward clutch piston return spring and steel ring must be properly aligned during assembly to prevent metal fatigue and improve spring life.

ACTION: Position the forward clutch piston spring so that both ends of the steel ring are visible within the space between the two adjacent fingers of the spring, Figure 1.
