LIGHT TRUCK:
1988-94 BRONCO, F-150-350 SERIES
ISSUE:
If replacement of the vacuum tank becomes necessary, the present tank is sonically welded to the side of the heater or evaporator case and cannot be detached for replacement. A different tank can be used to make the repair.
ACTION:
If required, install a new vacuum tank. Refer to the following for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. In the engine compartment, detach the vacuum hose from the sonically welded vacuum tank on the heater or evaporator case.
2. Attach the replacement tank (F3TZ-19D848-A) in a conveniently located spot that the vacuum hose will reach. Several areas are available as listed below (a, b or c). Method "a" is preferred, but if there is not enough clearance perform method "b" or "c".
a. On the old sonically welded tank, drill an appropriately sized hole in the vacuum tank and use a self-tapping screw to attach the replacement tank. The replacement tank has slots which will accept screws. Attach the tank and reinstall the vacuum hose to the new tank.
b. Locate an existing screw on the blower case and place the replacement tank with its slotted bracket in a position over the screw. Make sure: there is room for the tank; that the vacuum hose will reach; and that it can be attached with that screw.
c. Rework the slot on the replacement tank, if necessary, to ensure that the screw will fit through the slot. Attach the replacement tank and vacuum hose.
3. Verify proper operation of the climate control system.
