ISSUE:
A stall may occur during the initial first start, after a long soak, usually overnight. The vehicle will most likely run on the second attempt. This stall is a result of a lean condition during cold start. It may be caused by the EEC IV processor strategy.

ACTION:
Install a new EEC IV processor with a revised fuel delivery strategy.

1. Follow the Quick Test Procedure in the 1990 or 1991 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Shop Manual, or the 1992 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual, depending on the vehicle model year. If fault codes are present, service them as required.

2. If the initial stall is still occurring, replace the EEC IV processor as shown in the EEC IV Processor Reference Chart.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
