No Second Gear on E4OD (Updates Bulletin # 013)

Valve Body Change

Ford made a valve body change in 1990 for the E4OD. There was also a change to the separator plate and valve body gaskets. Using the wrong year valve body gaskets will result in a no second gear condition. The easiest way to identify 1989 & 1990 valve body gaskets is to look at the hole for the solenoid screen, (figure 1). The 1989 gasket has a hole that is perfectly round. If the hole in your gasket is round you definitely have a 1989 gasket. In 2/21/89 Ford revised the 1989 gasket by adding 2 notches to the round hole, (figure 2). In 1990 Ford moved the second gear feed hole. You now must use the template on page 2 to I.D. 1990 gaskets. The early 1989 separator plate to valve body gasket part number is E9TZ-7D100-A. The early 1989 separator plate to case gasket part number is E9TZ-7C155.A. The late 1989 gaskets are E9TZ-7D100-B and E9TZ-70155-B. The late 1989 gaskets will fit all 1989 E4OD's. For 1990 the part numbers changed to F0TZ-7D100-A & F0TZ-7C155-A.
