ISSUE:
Beginning May 2, 1994, an expanded transmission exchange program increased the availability of Ford Remanufactured E40D transmissions and ATX transaxles for powertrain warranty, ESP, after warranty adjustments (AWA), customer paid repairs and over-the-counter sales for the certain vehicle applications.
ACTION:
Dealers are REQUIRED to use an exchange in place of overhaul for warranty repairs on covered applications when the estimated cost of repair exceeds $1,300 for E40D, or $1,100 for ATX. Effective May 2, 1994, the E40D Exchange Hotline will end. Dealers will be unable to obtain an E40D exchange transmission by calling the former E40D Exchange Hotline.
E40D PROGRAM CHANGES
Effective May 2, 1994, the E40D exchange program covering most 1989-93 light truck applications will change from the current voluntary program to a MANDATORY program for both Ford-paid (warranty, ESP and AWA) and retail repairs. Dealers may order these transaxles from their facing Ford Authorized Remanufacturer (FAR).
Some details of the new program are as follows:
1. E40D EXCHANGE HOTLINE (1-800-345-6895) ENDS
a. Effective May 2, 1994, the E40D Exchange Hotline will end. Dealers will NOT be able to obtain an E40D exchange transmission by calling this number after that date.
2. FAR EXCHANGE REQUIRED FOR FORD-PAID REPAIRS
a. Dealers MUST use a Ford Remanufactured E40D transmission for all Ford-paid repairs in which the estimated cost of repair exceeds $1,300. Any 1863 claim for E40D repairs which exceeds $1,300, and which does not use a Ford Remanufactured E40D transmission assembly will be rejected, and will require Zone Manager approval.
b. There are special provisions for claim payment if a Ford Remanufactured E40D transmission assembly is not available. Details of these special provisions will be provided by local Ford Authorized Remanufacturer any time they cannot provide an assembly on a timely basis. Special claim payment provisions will also be summarized in the Exchange Program Guide binder revisions (effective May 2, 1994).
HOW TO GET THESE TRANSMISSIONS
Ford Remanufactured E40D transmissions are stocked by facing Ford Authorized Remanufacturers. Order these transmissions direct from the FAR's for all repairs, both Ford-paid and retail.
PRICE
The dealer exchange price of the Ford Remanufactured E40D transmission is $940 for 4.9L, 5.0L and 5.8L applications, and $960 for 7.3L and 7.5L applications. Suggested list exchange prices are $1,253.33 and $1,280.00, respectively. The core value is $600.
RETURN CORES TO FAR FOR CREDIT
Unlike the prior program, E40D cores must be returned to the FAR for core credit. Local facing FAR's will pick up these cores on their regular visits and issue appropriate core credit.
FCS-700 TAG ON FORD-PAID REPAIRS
Dealers will not claim core credit on form 1863. To ensure that cores from E40D repairs are picked up as soon as possible, cores can be picked up by FAR's before dealer 1863 claims are submitted and paid. To ensure that all cores are returned, however, an FCS-700 tag will be sent requesting proof of core return to the FAR.
^ Dealerships will receive an FCS-700 tag after the 1863 claim is paid.
^ A validated ORIGINAL CORE RECEIPT (yellow top copy) must be stapled to the FCS-700 tag and returned to the Warranty Parts Return Center before the tag and part due date. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a CHARGE-BACK of the entire E40D transmission repair.
^ If the FCS-700 tag is received before the FAR picks up the core, hold the FCS-700 tag until the core is picked up.
NOTE:
DO NOT RETURN THE CORE TO THE WARRANTY PARTS RETURN CENTER.
^ After the FAR picks up the core, attach the validated CORE RECEIPT (yellow top copy) left by the FAR to the FCS-700 tag and mail it to the Warranty Parts Return Center before the tag and part due date.
ATX PILOT PROGRAM REVISIONS
The ATX pilot program (covering 1987-88 Tempo and Topaz 2WD and 2.5L Taurus) will change the core return and claiming procedures to emulate the guidelines of the E40D program. These assemblies have been available from facing FAR's since October 1, 1992.
