This TSB is being republished in its entirety to include the 1994 model years and to add new information in the text. This article supersedes; 92-22-9, 93-12-20 and 94-12-14.

ISSUE:
High load, low speed, and start/stop duty cycles may result in the following concerns:

^ Overheating - converter cover discoloration, clutches burned, or burnt fluid.

^ Excessive bushing wear.

^ Low one-way clutch malfunction.

^ Forward clutch spline wear.

ACTION:
A number of changes have been made to upgrade the E40D transmission and improve its durability and reliability. These improvements should be made when the above concerns are exhibited at teardown. If service is required, install the following upgraded components in conjunction with the normal service procedures. Refer to the Econoline and F-Series Service Manual, Section 07-01A, for service details.
