^ WIRING - HEADLAMP SWITCH - POSSIBLE OVERLOAD FROM ADDING AUXILIARY MARKER LAMPS - SERVICE TIPS

LIGHT TRUCK: 1989-91 F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES

ISSUE: Splicing into the park lamp circuit can overload the headlamp switch. If additional marker lamps are added, they must be wired through a relay, feeding the relay coil from the headlamp switch. An appropriate fuse or circuit breaker must also be installed to protect the wiring from a short circuit.

ACTION: If auxiliary marker lamps are added, use the following service procedure to install them.

1. Locate the auxiliary marker lamp relay, Figure 1. This relay is controlled by the headlamp switch in both the parklamp and headlamp positions.

2. Make sure that maximum electrical draw on this circuit does NOT exceed 20 amps. This wiring is protected against short circuits by a 20 gauge fusible link.

3. Provide additional protection by using an appropriate fuse or circuit breaker.

4. Locate the four-way female connector, labeled "TO AUX. MARKER LAMPS", in the engine compartment near the left fender apron, Figure 1. This connector contains a black 14 gauge wire and a brown/white 14 gauge marker lamp feed wire.

NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A TRAILER TOW PACKAGE, THE MARKER LAMP WIRING IS EXTENDED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.

5. Connect a four-way male connector (D84Y-14489-L) to the "AUX. MARKER LAMP" circuit.

6. Install and align two female terminals in the male connector so they mate with the two male terminals in the AUX. MARKER LAMP circuit female connector.

7. Install spacer (D8FZ-14A468-A) to secure connection.
