ISSUE: Ignition noise or static heard in the AM band of the audio system may be caused by a defective radio suppression capacitor or an open circuit at the connector shell.
ACTION: Inspect the wire termination at the connector shell and, if necessary, replace the radio supression capacitor.
1. Locate the radio suppression capacitor which is located on the coil mounting bracket.
2. Examine the wire termination at the connector shell.
^ Be sure that the wire from the capacitor is not touching any engine components, such as the thermactor tubes on 5.8L EFI engine applications.
^ Secure or repair any loose wiring connections.
3. Replace the radio supression capacitor if it is found defective. Refer to the appropriate Light Truck Shop Manual, Section 35-01 for service details.
