Windshield Washer Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disarm airbag (if equipped).
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove steering column shroud.
4. Remove the two self-tapping screws that attach the switch to the steering column casting.
5. Disengage the switch from the casting.
6. Disconnect the two electrical connectors, using caution not to damage the locking tabs or the PRNDL cable (if equipped).
INSTALLATION
1. Install the two switch electrical connectors to full engagement. The switch wiring is to be routed under the PRNDL cable.
2. Align the mounting holes in the switch with the holes in the column casting.
3. Install the two self tapping screws making sure to start them in the correct holes. Tighten to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in lb).
4. For automatic transmission, make sure PRNDL adjustment is correct.
5. Install the column shroud.
6. Connect the battery ground cable.
NOTE: On vehicles with Electronic Engine Control (EEC) and/or electronically controlled transmissions, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. The vehicle may need to be driven ten or more miles to relearn the adaptive strategy.
7. Rearm the airbag (if equipped).
8. Check the steering column and switches for proper operation.
