Component Tests and General Diagnostics
NOTE: If the Air Induction System is functioning properly, refer to Powertrain Management / Testing and Inspection / Diagnostic Routines for further driveability complaint diagnosis. Any leak will cause poor operation and performance.- Visually inspect all vacuum hoses, injector seals and air intake hoses for indications of leaks.
- Connect a HEGO sensor monitor box to read the rich/lean state of the HEGO sensors.
- Bring the engine to normal operating temperature.
WARNING: The vehicle must be in a well ventilated area away from any source of spark or flame when using propane.
- With the engine idling in Neutral (M/T) or Park (A/T) and the parking brake engaged, spray small amounts of propane around possible sources of air leaks.
- When propane is sprayed near an induction system air leak, the HEGO monitor box will indicate "RICH" for one or two seconds, then return to normal switching. When the propane is removed from the leak, the HEGO monitor box will indicate "LEAN" after one or two seconds.
