Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Description and Operation

The Anti-Theft protection system is designed to provide the vehicle with protection against unauthorized entry.

Arming the System

The system is ready to arm any time the Ignition Switch is turned OFF. The anti-theft system can be armed in one of two ways:

1) Press the Remote Convenience Transmitter LOCK button once (with doors open or closed).

2) Open a door (causes Anti-Theft indicator to Flash), press the power door lock button to lock the doors.

After all doors are locked and closed as previously described, the system will be armed once the Anti-Theft Indicator (glowing constantly for approximately 30 seconds) turns off.

Triggering the System

The alarm can be triggered by any one of the following events if the system has not been disarmed first:

1) Open any door (including the rear door or sliding door)

2) Open the hood

3) Tamper with the Ignition Lock Cylinder

When triggered, the Anti-Theft Protection System sounds the horn and flashes the Low Beam Headlamps, Park Lamps and Anti-Theft Warning Indicator at a rate of approximately 80 cycles per minute for 3 minutes. In addition, the Starting System is disabled. Once the alarm has been triggered, only a disarm event will shut off the alarm and allow the vehicle stating system to operate.

Disarming the System

An armed or triggered system can be disarmed by one of the three events listed.

1) Press the Remote Entry Transmitter UNLOCK button once

2) Unlock a door with a key

3) If the driver arms the system and remains in the vehicle, the untriggered system can be disarmed by inserting the key into ignition and turning the ignition switch to the RUN or ACC position.
