SUBJECT:
Safety Recall 92S55 - Certain 1992 Model Club Wagon and E-150 Econoline Vehicles for Revision of the Tire Information on the Safety Compliance Certification Label.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 1992 model Club Wagon and E-150 Econoline vehicles with P235/75R15 XL (Extra Load) tires built from Job # 1 (September 3, 1991) through February 29, 1992.

REASONS FOR RECALL

The Safety Compliance Certification Label on certain 1992 model Club Wagon and E-150 Econoline vehicles with P235/75R15 XL (Extra Load) tires incorrectly designates P235/75R15 SL (Standard Load) tires as appropriate for this vehicle. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 120 requires the manufacturer to specify the tire size designation appropriate for the vehicle Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR).

ACTION

To correct this condition, supplementary tire information labels and installation instructions will be mailed to the vehicle owner for installation, or the owner at his/her option may have the dealer service personnel install the label. Tire Information labels and instructions for vehicles not reported sold as of September 30, 1992 will be mailed to the ordering dealer.

District Offices are being provided a quantity of the labels for their use and to provide to dealerships upon request.
