Electrical System

The airbag system is powered by the battery. The system will function with the ignition switch in any position, including OFF and LOCK. The system will also function when the driver or passenger seats are not occupied. The electrical system performs three main functions: detects an impact, switches electrical power to the igniter and monitors the system to determine readiness. The electrical system components include a diagnostic monitor, airbag system readiness indicator, wiring harness and contact assembly, sensors and the igniter incorporated within the the driver airbag.

The electrical system components include:

- The igniter within the driver air bag.
