DATE: 06-03-92
LIGHT TRUCK:
1992 E-30, E-33
ISSUE:
The fuel fill nozzle may shut off repeatedly during attempts to refuel the vehicle. This is more prevalent at low fill rates of 5 to 9 gallons per minute. It may be caused by...
^ Restrictions in the fuel fill pipe or vent hose
^ Incorrect Body Builder installed fuel fill system
^ A stuck fuel fill pipe check valve
^ An incorrect spring in the fuel fill check valve
ACTION:
Check the fuel fill and vent hose systems for restrictions and, if necessary, replace the fuel tank which includes an improved fuel fill pipe check valve spring. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1. Confirm that repeated shut off of the fuel nozzle is occurring.
2. Perform the following inspections.
^ Inspect the fuel fill pipe and vent hose for restrictions.
^ Check the fuel fill and vent hose systems for correct installation per the Body Builders Layout Book, Page B27 or Figure 1.
^ Examine the fuel fill pipe and vent hose systems for traps or low spots.
3. Service or replace faulty components as required.
4. Confirm that the repeated shut off concern has been corrected.
5. If the concern is still present, do NOT attempt to service the fuel fill pipe check valve or spring.
6. Install a new fuel tank (F2UZ-9002-E) which includes an improved fuel fill pipe check valve spring. Refer to the 1992 Econoline Service Manual, Sections 10-01A and 10-01B, for removal and installation procedures.
