FUEL SYSTEM - FUEL LINE DISCONNECT PROCEDURE - 1992 SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE
LIGHT TRUCK:
1992 BRONCO, ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES
ISSUE:
The 1992 Econoline, F-150, F-250, F-350, Bronco, F-Super Duty Service Manual does not include a procedure for disconnecting fuel line couplings.
ACTION:
If service is required, use the following procedure to disconnect fuel line couplings.
CAUTION:
FUEL SUPPLY LINES ON 4.9L EFI, 5.0 EFI, 5.8 EFI AND 7.5 EFI ENGINES WILL REMAIN PRESSURIZED FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. THIS PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED BEFORE SERVICING THE SYSTEM.
BEFORE OPENING THE FUEL SYSTEM ON VEHICLES WITH EFI ENGINES, RELIEVE FUEL PRESSURE AS FOLLOWS.
a. Locate and disconnect the electrical connection to either the fuel pump relay, the inertia switch or the in-line pressure fuel pump.
b. Crank the engine for approximately ten seconds.
NOTE:
ENGINE MAY START AND RUN FOR A SHORT TIME. IF SO, CRANK ENGINE AN ADDITIONAL FIVE SECONDS AFTER ENGINE STALLS.
c. Connect the electrical connector which was disconnected in step (a).
d. Disconnect battery ground cable.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Open the safety clip, Figure 1.
2. Fit fuel line disconnect tool (T90T-9550-B - 5/16" (7.94 MM) GRAY; T90T-9550-C - 3/8" (9.53 MM) BLUE; T90T-9550-S - SET OF BOTH TOOLS) to coupling so that the tool can enter the female fitting.
3. Push the tool into the female fitting.
4. Pull the male and female fittings apart.
