LIGHT TRUCK: 1992 ECONOLINE
ISSUE: Proper usage and stowage of the new rear seat shoulder safety belts is essential to their satisfactory operation.
ACTION: Make sure that the customer is made aware of the following rear seat shoulder safety belt usage and stowage information.
USAGE & STOWAGE
^ In addition to anchorages in the floor and roof structures, some of the new safety belts have a detachable anchor mounted to the outboard side of the rear seats.
^ Only the second row passenger side outboard seating position of a unit equipped with a three passenger bench seat or Captain's chair in the second row (aisle side) has a hook above the sliding/cargo door to stow the shoulder safety belt when it is not being used.
Figure 1:
The following bilingual (English/French) caution statement is shown on the warning label attached to the upper portion of the safety belts. See Figure 1.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE SEAT BELT FOR SUPPORT WHEN IT IS ATTACHED TO STOWAGE HOOK. THE HOOK MAY BREAK AND YOU MAY FALL.
Figure 2:
The following bilingual (English/French) warning statement is shown on the warning label attached to the lower portion of the safety belts. See Figure 2.
WARNING: THIS SEAT BELT GIVES NO PROTECTION UNLESS THIS END IS BUCKLED TO THE SIDE OF THE SEAT.
The seat shoulder safety belts should remain engaged in their detachable anchors, except when the rear seats require removal.
SEAT REMOVAL
Take the following steps to allow seat removal.
^ Disengage the safety belt from the seat by inserting a key into the slot provided in the detachable anchor and lifting the key upward, Figure 2.

Figure 4:
^ Whenever a rear seat has been removed, stow the tongue end of the detachable anchor as shown in Figures 3 and 4.
WARNING: WHEN INSTALLING A REAR SEAT IN THE VEHICLE, INSTALL THE REAR SEAT IN ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION. IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE SEAT WILL PREVENT CORRECT USE OF THE SHOULDER SAFETY BELTS. IMPROPER USE OF THE SAFETY BELTS COULD INCREASE THE RISK AND/OR SEVERITY OF INJURY.
SEAT INSTALLATION
After installing a rear seat and prior to inserting the detachable anchor tongue end into the detachable anchor, proceed as follows:
^ Make sure the safety belt is not twisted.
^ Insert the detachable anchor tongue end into the detachable anchor until you hear a "snap" and feel the latch engage.
^ If the safety belt is twisted, disengage the tongue end from the detachable anchor, remove the twist and reinsert the tongue end until you hear a "snap" and feel the latch engage.
NOTE: PRIOR TO VEHICLE DELIVERY, SHOW THE CUSTOMER THE LOCATIONS OF THE DETACHABLE ANCHOR. EXPLAIN THEIR USAGE AND THE PROPER USAGE OF THE TONGUE STOWAGE HOOK.
