TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove door trim panel, armrest bracket and water shield per Shop Manual Sec. 01-05b and 01-11.
**NOTE**
PLACE A STRIP OF MASKING TAPE ALONG EDGE OF DOOR BEFORE REMOVING TRIM PANEL TO PREVENT SCRATCHING THE DOOR WITH THE TRIM PANEL REMOVAL TOOL.
2. Remove cable clip from inner door panel.
3. Remove inside door handle assembly and disconnect from cable.
4. Drill out rivet for power door lock actuator if equipped.
5. Disconnect rods at latch (key cylinder and power actuator if equipped). Remove latch assembly from door with cable attached.
6. Disconnect cable from door latch and remove cable. Transfer the anti-rattle foam sleeve from the old cable to the new cable.
7. Lubricate hole of rubber cap with some of the supplied Teflon grease and install rubber cap on latch end (double 90 degrees) of cable.
8. Lift rubber cap and apply a dab of the special Teflon grease supplied with the cable service kit to cable housing openings at the latch end. The grease should surround and contact the cable all the way around, to seal the opening between the cable and the cable housing.
9. Install return spring over the cable and seat it on the rubber cap. Hold spring compressor and hook the double 90 degree end of the cable to the lever at latch while holding the lever in the down position with thumb of other hand.
10. Finish installing the cable at the latch. Make sure the cable is fully seated in the latch slot.
11. Insert narrow strip of latch water shield between the two levers and attach with push pin in the diamond shaped hole.
12. Clean hands of grease before performing step number 13.
13. Remove protective backing from water shield only in areas illustrated.
14. Secure water shield in position by pinching the exposed adhesive surfaces together.
15. Position door latch to door with outside handle rod and key cylinder rod in place (attach power actuator to latch if required).
16. Install the three new latch retaining screws and torque to 4-8 N-m (36-70 in.lbs).
17. Route cable through door using care to be sure cable is routed inboard of window bracket and regulator arm. There should be no components between the cable and the inner door panel when properly installed.
18. Apply a dab of the special Teflon grease supplied with the cable service kit to cable housing openings at inside handle end. Apply a light film of Teflon grease to barrel end of cable.
19. Attach inside door handle to cable. Hold handle in OPEN position during installation to avoid bending of cable.
**NOTE** THE CABLE WILL FAIL IN SERVICE IF IT IS KINKED DURING INSTALLATION.
20. Install inside door handle to door inner panel and torque to 2-3 N-m (18-26 in.lbs). Install anti-rattle clip to cable between the two colored marks and attach cable to door panel.
21. Check foam sleeve to be sure it covers cable fully from latch to cable clip.
22. Attach power door lock actuator (if equipped) with rivet.
23. Check all latch functions to insure reassembly of latch system.
24. Install watershield, armrest bracket and trim panel using new pins if required.
