LOCKS - HIGH KEY EFFORTS - TO "LOCK" OR "UNLOCK", "INSERT" OR "REMOVE" KEY - VEHICLES WITH SIDE CARGO DOOR OR REAR DOOR

LIGHT TRUCK:
1992 ECONOLINE

ISSUE:
High key efforts, when inserting, removing, unlocking or locking the door lock assembly, may be caused by key cylinder lock rod interference with the latch housing.

ACTION:
If the lock cylinder and latch are otherwise functioning properly, remove the lock rod and replace it with a specially shaped new service lock rod. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove door trim panel. Refer to section 01-05 in the 1992 Econoline Service Manual.

2. Remove latch assembly from door as outlined in section 01-14A of the Service Manual.

3. Once the latch is outside the door, the key cylinder lock rod can be removed by sliding the rod upward through the hole in the latch lever.

4. Replace with a new level key cylinder lock rod.

5. Reinstall the latch assembly. Refer to section 01-14A of the Service Manual.

6. Install door trim. Refer to section 01-05 of the Service Manual.
