WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
An intermittent, light to medium tip-in hesitation may occur from stop, at part or wide open throttle. It is worse when outside temperatures are above 90~ F (32~ C). This concern is caused by the strategy of the EEC-IV processor.

ACTION:
Install a new EEC-IV processor. Refer to the following EEC-IV Processor Application Chart for correct parts usage.


1. Perform the Diagnostic Procedures as outlined in the 1992 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual. Service as required.





2. If the hesitation is still present and no Fault VIP (Vehicle Ignition Performance) codes are encountered during the Diagnostics Testing, replace the EEC-IV Processor. Refer to the EEC-IV Processor Application Chart for correct parts usage.





3. When a processor change has been made, spark plug gap must be set to 0.052" - 0.056" (1.32-1.42 mm).

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.


NOTE:
REFER TO THE PRECEDING EEC-IV PROCESSOR APPLICATION CHART. THE ROO LEVEL CALIBRATIONS SHOULD HAVE THE SPARK PLUGS GAPPED AT 0.042-0.046 (1.07-1.17 MM). THE R10 AND R11 LEVEL PROCESSORS SHOULD HAVE THE SPARK PLUGS GAPPED AT 0.052-0.056" (1.32-1.42 MM).
