This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has determined that certain 1992 Model Club Wagon and E-150 Econoline vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars".
Non-Compliance
The Safety Compliance Certification Label on certain 1992 model Club Wagon and E-150 Econoline vehicles with P235/75Rl5 XL (Extra Load) tires incorrectly designates P235/75R15 SL (Standard Load) tires as appropriate for this vehicle. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 120 requires the manufacturer to specify the tire size designation appropriate for the vehicle Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR).
Warning
The vehicle owner's manual refers the owner to the Safety Compliance Certification Label when replacing tires. The Certification label installed on your vehicle incorrectly refers to a lower rated Standard Load (SL) tire as appropriate for your vehicle. Using a lower load-rated tire rather than the higher load-rated tires may, under certain loading conditions, result in insufficient load carrying capacity.
The tires installed on your vehicle at the factory are correct. Only the tire load range shown on the factory installed Safety Certification label is incorrect.
Supplementary Label
To correct this condition, please affix the enclosed Tire Information Label adjacent to the Safety Compliance Certification Label found on the rear of the driver's door. The label is visible when you open the door. Before applying the label, wipe the area clean with a dry cloth. If you prefer and at no charge to you, your dealer will affix the label for you.
How long will it take?
The time needed by the dealer to install the label is less than an hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for one full working day.
Call your dealer
If you prefer that your dealer affix the label, ask for a service date and take this letter and label with you.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
Changed address or sold the Club Wagon/ Econoline?
Please fill out enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us if you have changed your address or sold the vehicle.
If the dealer doesn't make the repair promptly and without charge, you may contact the Ford Customer Assistance Center, 300 Renaissance Center, P.0. Box 43360, Detroit, Michigan 48243. You also may send a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline 1-800-424-9393 (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123).
We regret the inconvenience this non-compliance service program may cause you, but we want you to have the work done for your safety and satisfaction with your Ford-built Econoline.
