Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cables, then drain coolant.
2. Remove air cleaner, then install intake manifold cover tool No. T83T-9424-A or equivalent over air intake opening.
3. On models equipped with A/C, discharge A/C system.
4. On all models, remove front bumper, air deflector and stone guard.
5. Remove air deflector and grille.
6. Remove headlamp and side lamp assemblies and housing.
7. Remove transmission cooler, if equipped.
8. Remove grille support and lower grille panel.
9. Remove hood latch from upper radiator support and with cable attached position aside.
10. Remove radiator and fan shroud.
11. On models equipped with A/C, disconnect A/C lines to condenser, then remove condenser.
12. On all models, remove oil cooler lines and bracket.
13. Remove upper radiator support.
14. Remove fan, fan clutch, and drive belts.
15. On models equipped with A/C, disconnect compressor electrical connectors and lines, then remove compressor and bracket assembly.
16. On all models, remove power steering hoses at steering gear, then remove pump and bracket as an assembly.
17. Remove alternator adjusting bracket.
18. Remove upper and lower radiator hoses.
19. Disconnect and tag engine electrical connectors, then disconnect alternator electrical connector.
20. Remove transmission oil cooler line bracket.
21. Remove engine ground cable.
22. Disconnect vacuum pump hose from main junction.
23. Disconnect bleeder hose from heater hose and disconnect heater hose from heater core.
24. Disconnect fuel hose from fuel pump, remove fuel filter.
25. Remove throttle cable bracket and dipstick tube bracket.
26. Remove inside engine cover.
27. Remove fuel return hose and transmission dipstick tube.
28. Remove three top transmission to engine attaching bolts.
29. Raise and support vehicle.
30. Disconnect starter and transmission electrical connectors.
31. On models equipped with automatic transmission, remove flywheel housing cover and torque converter to to flywheel attaching nuts.
32. On all models, remove four engine mount attaching nuts.
33. Support transmission using suitable transmission jack.
34. Install suitable engine lifting equipment.
35. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts, then remove engine.
36. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
