TRANSMISSION - E4OD - HARSH AND/OR DOUBLE BUMP ON REVERSE ENGAGEMENT - VEHICLES WITH 4.9L ENGINE ONLY

LIGHT TRUCK:
1991-94 BRONCO, ECONOLINE, F-150-350 SERIES

ISSUE:
Some vehicles with an E4OD transmission and 4.9L engine may experience harsh and/or double bump reverse engagements. This may be caused by high control pressure level.

ACTION:

Perform On-Board Diagnostics as outlined in Service Manual, Section 07-01 A. Repair all non-related transmission Diagnostic Trouble Codes and concerns first. Rerun the On-Board Diagnostics and replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if the concern is still present. Refer to the following PCM Application Chart for correct PCM usage.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
