^ TRANSMISSION - E40D - CONTROL SWITCH WIRING SHORTED - NUMBER 5 FUSE BLOWN

LIGHT TRUCK:
1992 ECONOLINE

ISSUE:
Transmission control switch wiring may be misrouted causing a short in the steering column wiring and a blown number 5 fuse. The following symptoms may be associated with this concern:

^ Transmission 3-4 shift cycling

^ Transmission control indicator lamp cycling on/off or inoperative

^ Transmission control switch inoperative

^ Loss of instrumentation (tach, fuel gauge, etc.)

^ Back-up lamps and turn signals not functional

^ Key on engine running self test code 65 or three digit code 632 (transmission control switch not changing state)





ACTION:
Remove steering column cover, inspect transmission control switch wiring for damage and repair or replace if necessary. Refer to Section 11 of the Light Truck Service Manual for steering column service details.

CAUTION:
DURING REASSEMBLY ROUTE WIRE AWAY FROM ATTACHING SCREW SO AS NOT TO PINCH OR DAMAGE WIRE.
