TRANSMISSION - HARSH SHIFTS - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 62 IN CONTINUOUS MEMORY - TRANSMISSION CONTROL INDICATOR LAMP (TCIL) FLASHING - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 1/3/94
LIGHT TRUCK:
1989-94 E-250, E-350, F SUPER DUTY, F-250, F-350, F-53
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit a flashing Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL) and harsh shifts with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 62 in continuous memory. This condition may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
ACTION:
Verify proper transmission function by performing diagnostic procedures specified in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual for DTC 62. If the concern is still present, install a service replacement PCM. Refer to the PCM Usage Chart for correct application.

MAKE SURE TO PERFORM A PROPER DIAGNOSIS FOR CODE 62 AS OUTLINED IN THE PCED AND SERVICE MANUALS BEFORE CHANGING THE PCM. IF THE VEHICLE HAS THE UPDATED PCM AND EXHIBITS CODE 62 IN CONTINUOUS MEMORY, THERE IS A VEHICLE OR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND CODE 62 IS VALID. THE PINPOINT TEST LISTED IN THE PCED MANUAL AND SERVICE MANUAL MUST BE PERFORMED.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
