^ NOISE - POWER MIRROR - "POPPING" WHEN FOLDING MIRROR HEAD

LIGHT TRUCK:
1992 ECONOLINE

ISSUE:
The outside power mirror may make a loud "pop" when folding the head forward or backward from the normal driving position. This can be caused by improper adjustment or lack of lubricant of the pivot mechanism.

ACTION:
The "pop" noise can be eliminated by lubricating the pivot mechanism and adjusting the position of the mirror assembly on the door. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the "pop" concern exists by folding mirror head forward or backward to create a "popping" noise.

2. Position mirror head in driving position.

3. Push-in on the lower inside corner (next to door window glass) of the mirror glass to expose the pivot mechanism (refer to Figure 1).

4. Liberally lubricate the pivot mechanism with D7AZ-19584-AA (multi purpose grease) using the extension nozzle.

5. Fold mirror head fully forward and rearward until "pop" noise stops.

NOTE:
IF "POP" SOUND IS STILL PRESENT AFTER 6 COMPLETE FORWARD/REARWARD CYCLES THEN CONTINUE TO STEP 6.

6. Remove trim panel that covers the mirror assembly attaching nuts.

7. Loosen the attaching nuts but do not remove.

8. Push up on the bottom of the mirror head to move it upward as far as it will go.

9. Hold mirror in the pushed-up position and tighten the nuts to 7-8 N-m (62-70 lb.in).

10. Install trim panel.
