AXLE - REAR - SYNTHETIC LUBRICANT FOR SEVERE DUTY


LIGHT TRUCK: 1992 and prior E-250, E-350, F SUPER DUTY, F-250, F-350, F-47, F-53, F-59


ISSUE: Certain "severe or extreme use" operating conditions can degrade the original equipment rear axle lube, eventually allowing damage to internal components. High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant is available and is capable of withstanding higher operating temperatures which eventually can lead to lube oxidation. It flows properly down to -40~F (-40~C).

ACTION: Use High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant (F1TZ-19580-B) (Spec. WSL-M2C192-A) synthetic SAE 75W-140 if the vehicle is operated under severe or extreme use. Refer to the following Rear Axle Lube Change Interval Chart for maintenance information.


SEVERE USE DEFINITION

Any of the following conditions is considered to be "severe use".

^ Operating in hot weather (above 90~F or 32~C) with heavy loads in hilly terrain

^ Operating at maximum loading

^ Towing a trailer or slide-in camper

^ Making door-to-door delivery or in use for police or taxi service

^ Operating a transmission-mounted PTO


EXTREME USE DEFINITION

Extreme use is trailer towing above 70~F (21~C) ambient temperatures with wide open throttle for EXTENDED periods above 45 mph (72 km/h).

USAGE GUIDELINES

Use High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant (F1TZ-19580-B) (Spec. WSL-M2C192-A) synthetic SAE 75W-140 when any gears or bearings are replaced due to scoring, spalling or other concerns that indicate over loading or lube oxidation. Oxidation related heat can also contribute to seal leaks or structural concerns.
